Preparing timeline of natural disasters

The students made timeline using the data they collected previously on when and where different disasters took place.

Research Work- Collecting Data

The students worked with their clock partners to research about the selected natural disaster. They filled in a Disaster Data Sheet with the following information:
1. Key features of the disaster
2. Different parts of world where the disaster took place in past.(Name of the country, city, etc.)
3. The time when the disaster took place.( Year , date, etc.)

Unjumble

The students worked with their clock partners for this activity wherein each pair was given two  jumbled
words which indicated a type of natural disaster. They unjumbled and discussed what they knew about each of the natural disasters.

Pairing strategy- Clock Partners

Clock partners is a strategy to create pairs for partnered activities. The students took appointments with other students on the mentioned time slots. They enjoyed this activity.

Natural disasters Vs Man-made disasters

Compare and Contrast
The students were shown two set of pictures. The first set of pictures included the pictures of natural disasters whereas the second set of pictures had pictures of man-made disasters which are causing changes in the natural environment. A class discussion was followed wherein the students reflected upon if all these changes are desirable and if they are in our control. They used a compare contrast graphic organizer to write down the difference between the first and the second set of pictures.

"Black Tears"- Video song

The students were shown a video song  titled,  “Black Tears” .The students read the lyrics of the song and  made a connection between the lyrics and the content of the video.

Before and after scenario

The students were shown a video titled, “ Day after Diwali – a NEWS report and the “Acid Rain - Awareness Commercial”. They made a before and after scenario of the video shown to show the change noticed and highlight the impact of the same through  drawing.

Later they did a gallery walk to see the work done by their peers.
